How We Began
In February 2015, Sherry Sims was asked to share her story of domestic abuse with the female inmates of the Washington County Correctional Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was a little anxious since she had never been inside a prison before, but on that day, 16 of 29 inmates accepted Christ. She later realized that over 90% of female inmates have experienced domestic abuse, which is why her story resonated with them so deeply. It was then she felt led to put her story in a mini book and distribute them to incarcerated women. She knew a book could reach farther and impact more lives than her speaking ever could.
Although it took a while to establish the ministry and write, edit, design and print the mini books, the vision God gave Sherry in 2015 finally became a reality.
In January 2018 we began distributing books in two of the largest female-only facilities in Oklahoma. Today, we are answering hundreds of letters a month and have mentored thousands of female inmates throughout Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, Colorado, California and Alabama through our 30-lesson faith-based Correspondence Course called The Freedom Project.
In January 2020 God expanded our vision when He challenged us to reach the estimated 231,000 women incarcerated in the United States. To accomplish this, He instructed us to give 100,000 mini books free of charge to prison chaplains for distribution to female inmates in 130 facilities located in the following regions: West, Midwest, Northeast and South. In spite of COVID-19, we are still determined to fulfill this mandate…
